Pereira Authors One-Hit Shutout as Bentley Splits a Pair

WINTER HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Elise Pereira (Plainville, Mass./King Philip Reg. HS) pitched a one-hit strikeout to lead Bentley University to a 2-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College at the Diamond Plex Thursday morning.

In the Falcons' second game of the day and its final contest of the Spring Games, St. Cloud State University used a sixth-inning run to edge Bentley, 3-2.

The only run of the STAC game was scored in the top of the seventh inning. Following an error, a fielder's choice and a walk, senior first baseman Gabby Casalino (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills West HS) delivered Bentley's only hit of the game, a two-run double to right that scored both junior catcher Lindsey Allen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech HS) and senior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham HS).

Pereira, who carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, walked one and struck out five while earning her fourth win of the season.

Against St. Cloud State, Bentley jumped out to an early lead on a two-run homer by junior right fielder Lea Thompson (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS) in the second. The Huskies countered in the bottom of the third when sophomore shortstop Sydney Trees (Prior Lake, Minn.) cleared the fences for a two-run homer of her own.

St. Cloud State scored the game-winner in the sixth. Junior left fielder Brooke Bowlin (Chaska, Minn.) reached on a bunt single, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and was driven in by sophomore designated player Jasmin Estrada (Litchfield, Minn.) on a single through the left side.

Bentley, 7-7, threatened with three hits in the top of the seventh but was unable to score.

The Falcons' eight hits included two apiece by Allen and Casalino.

With the Northeast-10 Conference suspending all athletic competition until April 13, Bentley's final two scheduled games of the trip, against Bloomfield College and Caldwell University, were cancelled.
