Casalino, Korotsky & Romeo Named Bentley Softball Captains

WALTHAM, Mass. – First baseman Gabby Casalino (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West HS), left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Bridgewater/Bridgewater Raynham HS) and center fielder Julianne Romeo (Greenville, R.I../Smithfield HS) are the captains of the 2020 Bentley University softball team, head coach Terry A. McDonough announced. The three seniors were also team captains last spring.

"The three captains all bring something special and different," said the Falcons' fifth year head coach. "They are a coaches' dream and make my job a lot easier. They are an extension of myself and staff, and know what it takes for this team to be successful."

Casalino, who has an outstanding stretch at first base, started 41 of 42 games last season and posted a .993 fielding percentage, fourth best in the NE10 among players with at least 150 putouts. She hit .222 with one home run and a dozen RBI.

"The organizer/mom of the team, Gabby gets it done whatever the task is," praised McDonough. "She is the voice of the team and will make sure this team is on board with what it will take to be successful this year."

Korotsky, a second-team All-Northeast-10 selection in 2018, led Bentley in hitting each of the last two seasons with averages of .328 as a sophomore and .316 last spring. She had a team-best 25 runs scored last year and enters the 2020 season with 111 career hits, including 48 last year while almost exclusively hitting out of the leadoff spot in the lineup.

"Stacey is an all-around great athlete and role model on and off the field," said McDonough. "She understands the importance of practice and puts the extra work in to make both herself and team better."

Romeo, a starter since the beginning of her freshman year and two hits shy of the century mark, hit a career-best .295 last spring with her 38 hits including three doubles, two triples and a home run. She was even better in conference games, hitting at a .330 clip.

"The motivator is the best way to describe Romeo," said McDonough. "She is a passionate athlete who comes to practice and games with the win mentality. She shares that passion with the team not only as an example on the field but through her voice with her positive mind set."

Bentley, 18-24 last year, opens the season this weekend in Winter Park, Fla. with the Rollins Round Robin.
