Fitzpatrick Authors 2-Hit Shutout as Bentley Blanks Stonehill, 1-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Kayleigh Fitzptrick (East Hampstead, N.H./Timberlane Reg. HS) pitched a two-hit shutout, leading Bentley University to a 1-0 win over Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball game played at Southern New Hampshire University Thursday night.

Fitzpatrick's first career shutout as a collegian saw her strike out one and walk one while allowing just a single in the top of the first and another in the third. Stonehill (11-27, 7-10 NE10 NE) had only one base runner reach second base.

The only run of the contest was scored in the bottom of the first. Bentley freshman first baseman Stacey Korotsky (Raynham/Bridgewater-Raynham HS) reached on a one-out error, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on the Falcons' only hit of the game, a single through the right side by senior left fielder Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS).

Stonehill's one-hitter was pitched by junior Jennifer Mayette (Scotia, N.Y.), who had one walk and two strikeouts.

This was the third straight pitchers' duel the two teams have played in the last nine days. In the three contests, the two teams combined for just five runs with Stonehill winning the previous two, 1-0 and 3-0.

Bentley (10-21, 3-12 NE10 NE) will close out the season this weekend with a doubleheader at St. Michael's Friday, a single game against St. Michael's Saturday and a home twinbill with Southern New Hampshire Sunday.
