Ferris Named Northeast-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University senior left-hander Kelly Ferris (Seymour, Conn./Seymour HS) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Softball co-Pitcher of the Week after winning all three games of a weekend series with Franklin Pierce University.

Ferris, in the three appearances in the center circle, gave up only seven hits and one run in 12 innings of work. She pitched a two-hit shutout with four strikeouts  in the middle game and provided three innings of relief in the other two. She had ten strikeouts and only one walk in the series, and held opposing hitters to a .163 average.

For the season, Ferris is 6-6 with a 1.58 ERA, second best in the NE-10. Her career 1.89 ERA ranks second in program history and she's one of only three Falcons who have over 200 strikeouts.

Also recognized for their performance against Franklin Pierce, with selection to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll, were senior shortstop Alex Borrelli (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic HS), junior left fielder Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS) and sophomore second baseman Catie Noons (North Dighton/Dighton-Rehoboth Reg. HS).

Borrelli hit .636 (7-11) and slugged .909 with seven RBI and four runs scored in the Franklin Pierce series. She topped the 100-hit mark for her career and also handled 12 chances at short without an error.  Borrelli had multiple hits in each game with two hits, two runs and an RBI in a 4-3 win, two hits, two RBI and a run in an 8-0 win (including a walk-off single to invoke the mercy rule) and three hits, four RBI and a run scored in an 11-3 victory.

Kennedy, Bentley's leading hitter for the season (.365), was 6-for-9 with two RBI, two runs scored, a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .727 on base percentage.

Noons was 6-for-10 with five runs scored and three RBI against the Ravens. She posted a .667 on base percentage and handed 11 chances at second without an error.

Bentley entered today's doubleheader at Merrimack with records of 10-10 overall and 8-2 NE-10.
