Noons Named Northeast-10 Softball Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University freshman second baseman Catie Noons (North Dighton/ Dighton-Rehoboth Reg. HS) has been named the Softball Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference following her impressive performance last week down in Florida.

Competing at the National Training Center in Clermont, Noons posted a .474/.476./.895 slash line with nine hits and 17 total bases in 19 at bats. She tied a decades-old school record with three doubles in the first game against Bridgeport and had three RBI, a double and a homer a day later against the Purple Knights. Noons also handled 12 chances at second without an error.

Noons returned from the Sunshine State with the eighth best slugging percentage in the NE-10 (.655) and is currently tied for second in the conference in doubles (5). She's second on the team in both batting average (.379) and RBI (7).

Two other Falcons, senior left fielder Shannon Connor (West Haven, Conn./West Haven HS) and sophomore center fielder Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS), were named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll following outstanding performances last week,.

Connor, in six games, hit .421 (8-19) with a .500 on base percentage, eight RBI and six runs scored. She had a trio of two-hit, two-RBI games, and scored twice in two of those.

Kennedy strung together a .471/.550/.824 slash line during the week with her eight hits including four doubles and a triple. She scored seven runs, including at least once in every game, and also had three sacrifices.

Connor, tenth on Bentley's all-time hit list, is hitting .400 with a team-high nine RBI and Kennedy is at .320 with a .560 slugging percentage.

Bentley, 3-6, is scheduled to play at American International Saturday, field conditions permitting.
