Senior Day & Coaches vs. Cancer on Tap for Bentley Softball This Weekend

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University softball team will have a pair of special events this weekend as the Falcons close out the regular season with a three-game series against St. Michael's College. The two teams will meet in a single game Saturday at 1 pm. and will play a noon doubleheader on Sunday.

On Sunday, Bentley will be raising money for the Coaches vs. Cancer campaign and will be wearing special pink jerseys and socks for the first game. Those wishing to donate for this cause can do so by visiting coaches.acsevents.org/ma.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), and other coaches' organizations, that empowers coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.

Because cancer has touched so many of our nation's coaches, Coaches vs. Cancer offers them the unique opportunity to fight the disease. Through integrated fundraising activities and public awareness campaigns, participating coaches are truly making a difference in the fight against cancer and are raising awareness in their communities about the importance of cancer prevention, early detection, and making healthy lifestyle choices.

Prior to Saturday's game, the team's six seniors and graduate students will be recognized for their contributions. They are pitcher Carly Taitz (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS), first baseman Samantha Tierney (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketchum HS), second baseman Laura McDonough (Braintree/Braintree HS), third baseman Kelly Sanborn (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) and outfielders Jackie Gauthier (Braintree/Braintree HS) and Chelsea Tamuk (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandermeulen HS).
