WORCESTER, Mass. – A walk-off single by freshman catcher Andrea Crowley (Norfolk) gave Assumption College a 2-1 game-one win and the Greyhounds went on to complete a doubleheader sweep of Bentley University with an 11-1 game two victory in Northeast-10 Conference softball Sunday afternoon at Marois Field.

With the two teams even at 1-1, Greyhound senior shortstop Marissa Palumbo (Worcester) led off the bottom of the second with a single up the middle. Freshman Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I.) put down a bunt attempting to sacrifice and both were safe when the play was made unsuccessfully to second. A sacrifice put both in scoring position and Crowley plated the winning run with a single up the middle.

Bentley had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth with a bunt single by sophomore center fielder Jackie Gauthier (Braintree/Braintree HS) starting things off for the Falcons. Following a sacrifice bunt and a fly ball to center, senior catcher Megan Blier (Wells, Maine/Wells HS) came through, her single up the middle scoring Gauthier from second.

The lead was short-lived as Assumption matched the Falcon run in the bottom half of the inning. junior Lauren Medeiros (Seekonk) doubled to center and scored on a single up the middle by freshman third baseman Jess DiPilarto (Worcester).

In game two, Assumption (25-12, 18-6 NE-10) was powered by Medeiros, who homered in the first, delivered a two-run single to right during a five-run second inning and ended the game in the sixth with a walk-off grand slam to right center. All told, that was three hits and seven RBI in four at bats for the Greyhound second baseman.

That was more than enough for senior Chelsea Durso (Salem, N.H.), who limited the Falcons to four hits and struck out five while winning for the sixth time in eight decisions.

Bentley's only run of the nightcap was scored in the sixth inning. Blier had a one-out single to right center, was sacrificed to second and scored on a fielding error.

Bentley (8-24, 6-18 NE-10) will close out the season with three doubleheaders, beginning Tuesday against Merrimack (3 pm).
