Strong Debut for Furtney at Shacklette Invitational

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Ned Furtney (Canton, Conn./Canton HS) made a strong collegiate debut for the Bentley University men's cross country team during Saturday's Shacklette Invitational at Saint Anselm College.

Furtney was the number one finisher for the Falcons, covering the 8,000-meter course in 27:53.2 to place 13th overall. He missed cracking the top ten by about four seconds.

The next two Falcons across the finish line were were sophomore Tom Quentin (Saco, Maine/ Thornton Academy), 24th in 29:02.7, and freshman Mac Segura-Cook (Northwood, N.H./Coe-Brown Northwood Acad.), 29th in 29:36.0.

As a team, Bentley finished sixth of seven as first-year head coach Kevin Curtin elected to rest most of his returning athletes and instead, had four freshmen among his six runners.

Stonehill College, which placed five runners in the top ten, easily captured the team title with a score of 24 points, 46 better than runner-up Merrimack College. The individual champion was Saint Rose's Macky Lloyd, with a time of 26:09.1.

Bentley will complete in the UMass-Dartmouth Shriners Invitational next Saturday
