Strong Sophomore Class Leads Bentley to Codfish Bowl Championship

BOSTON, Mass. -- With five sophomores finishing in the top 24, the Bentley University men's cross country team captured the championship of the 43rd annual Codfish Bowl Saturday at Franklin Park.  It's the second team title in as many races for the 2010 Falcons.

Bentley, with a team score of 72 points, topped Bates College by 16 points for the championship. Rounding out the top five in the 25-team meet were the Boston Athletic Association (114), Adelphi University (152) and Team Run (157).

The Falcons were led by sophomore Rob Dextradeur (Branford, Conn./Branford HS), who was the fifth man across the finish line with an 8,000-meter time of 26:17. Brennan Bonner of the Greater Boston Track Club broke the tape in 26:07, and Noah Graboys of Bates was the number one collegian (26:10).

The next three Bentley runners to finish were Teddy Farley (Acton/Acton-Boxborough Reg. HS) in 13th (26:33), Curtis Trueb (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester HS) in 16th (26:43) and Craig Robinson (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough HS) in 17th (26:50). John Drago (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) rounded out the top five for the Falcons, placing 24th in 27:05.

Bentley coach Ed Lyons was very pleased with his team's gap of just 54 seconds between his first and seventh running, nothing the goal is to be under a minute.

Bentley will run again this Saturday in the NCAA Division II Pre-Nationals in Louisville, Ky.
