NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Nik Haas (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS), sophomore Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS) and classmate Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) recorded third place performances as the Bentley University men's indoor track and field team closed out the first semester portion of its schedule Friday in the Elm City Classic at Southern Connecticut State University.

Haas ran the mile in 4:24.75, finishing one place and 2.76 seconds in front of teammate Sean Nee (West Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Reg. HS). Sophomore Graham Chapski (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich HS) was fifth in 4:27.93, a personal best by 7.47 seconds, and senior Greg Karpacz (Wayland, Mass./Wayland HS) took ninth (4:41.42).

Bentley also had four in the top nine of the 3,000 with Higgins leading the way in 8:55.90, a PR by 18.48 seconds. Junior Erik Alatalo (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington HS) was fifth in the 21-man field (9:12.39), senior Anthony Lacey (Ogdensburg, N.J./Pope John XXIII) seventh (9:12.39) and senior Sidney Field (Leverett, Mass./Amherst Regional HS) ninth (9:39.80, a PR).

Skarin improved on his personal best in the 800 while placing third among 21 competitors in 1:57.22. That was nearly a minute better than the PR he established last year as a rookie.

Grad student Steve Maffiolini (Southington, Conn./Southington HS) had a solid meet for the Falcons, scoring in a pair of events. He was fourth of 23 in the 400 meters (51.00) and sixth of 27 in the 200 (23.15). In the latter event, senior Connor Hichens (Sharon, Mass./Sharon HS) improved on his PR by 0.82 seconds by finishing ninth in 23.45 seconds.

Bentley's highest finish in the field events was a seventh, among 19 competitors, in the shot put (41'10.75").

Bentley totaled 36 points in the meet to finish fifth among six teams.

The next action for the Falcons is five weeks away, the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandeis on Jan. 16.
