Granat, Gilman & Weitz Pick Up Wins, but Bentley Falls to MIT 7-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Juniors Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) and Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) and freshman Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) each recorded wins, but the Bentley men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to MIT on Wednesday.

Weitz, who won earlier in the week in No. 4 singles against Boston College, earned a win in No. 3 singles against MIT. He defeated Victor Cheng by a 6-3, 6-4 score.

Two singles matches went to three sets. Senior Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) went to three sets in the No. 2 match with Sean Ko. He took the first set 7-6 (5-0), Ko got the second set 7-5, then edged McCarthy in the tiebreak 10-8. Granat went to three sets in the No. 4 match. After he dropped the first set 7-6 (3-0), he rallied in the second set 6-4, but Deng took a close tiebreak set 12-10.

In doubles, the team of Granat and Gilman posted an 8-3 win in the No. 2 match. They bested the team of Cheng and Albert Go.
