WALTHAM, Mass. – For the second straight season, Bentley will host Le Moyne in the first round of the Northeast-10 Men's Tennis Championship. The action gets underway at 2:00 pm and will be played at Brandeis.

The Falcons earned the No. 4 seed with a 5-4 record in NE10 matches, and are opposed by the Dolphins in the No. 5 seed after they went 5-4 in NE10 matches as well. However, Bentley's 6-3 victory over Le Moyne on April 8 gave them the head-to-head tiebreaker.

In that 6-3 regular season win, George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao/ISC) and Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) each won in both singles and doubles. Samander and Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) took the No. 1 doubles match, and Gilman and Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) the No. 3 match.

In singles, Samander (No. 2), Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) (No. 3), Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H./Berwick) (No. 4) and Gilman (No. 6) earned Bentley's points.

The Falcons won last season's first round match against the Dolphins 5-1, behind two wins apiece from Rosa and Fuca. However, their run came to an end in the semifinals against Southern New Hampshire with a 5-2 defeat.

In regular season NE10 matches in 2016-17, Fuca finished with Bentley's best record at 7-1, while he and Gilman also posted Bentley's best doubles record in NE10 matches at 8-1. Freshman Kendall Au (West Essex, N.J./Essex Fells) will enter the postseason on a team best seven match winning streak in singles.

The player with the top singles record for Le Moyne in NE10 matches was junior Jason Barton at 8-0, while he and Josh Sagaille were the top doubles pair with a 7-1 mark.

The Falcons will be looking to get back to the NE10 finals for the first time since 2012, which was the third straight season they reached the championship match. They won the title the prior two years, 5-4 over Southern New Hampshire in 2011, and 5-0 over Merrimack in 2010.

In the other first round match this season, No. 3 seed Adelphi will host No. 6 Assumption. Southern New Hampshire, which went 9-0 in the regular season, and Merrimack, earned the top two seeds. The winner of the Bentley-Le Moyne match will face SNHU, and the winner of the Adelphi-Assumption match will face Merrimack. Both semifinal matches take place on Thursday, on the court of the higher seed.

The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 pm and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
