Vizental Leads Bentley to Season-Opening Win over Wheaton

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Anthony Vizental (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley HS) won three individual events and participated on a winning relay as Bentley University opened the 2022-23 men's swimming season with a 178-113 win over Wheaton College Friday night at the Dana Center.

Vizental and the Falcons opened the meet by taking the 200 yard medley relay in 1:36.45. The quartet also included sophomores Calvin Ye (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber HS) and Kenneth Ryu (Los Angeles, Cal./Loyola HS), and was anchored by senior Ryan Looney (Wilton, Conn./Wilton HS).

Vizental captured the 200 freestyle in 1:46.35, the 200 butterfly in 1:53.43 and the 100 fly in 51.55 seconds.

Ryu swam to wins in both breaststroke events, with times of 1:01.71 in the 100 and 2:16.30 in the 200. The race in the 100 was one of the closest of the night with Ryu edging senior teammate Taylor Eisenhut (Jamesville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius HS) by 0.25 seconds.

Junior Andrew Matjucha (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) also doubled for the Falcons as he captured the two longest races of the night, the 500 free in 5:01.12 and the 1,000 in 10:14.65. In both events, Bentley freshman Leighton Wielgoszinski (Madison, Ind./Madison Consolidated HS) was second.

The other individual winners for Bentley were freshman Wellington Chen (Great Neck, N.Y./Miller North HS) in the 50 free (22.17) and graduate student Jeremy Glick (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) in the one-meter diving (225.00).

Next weekend, Bentley will be in New York for meets against Le Moyne and Saint Rose.
