Bridge Earns Gold in One-Meter Diving during Gompei Invitational at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. – Bentley University senior diver Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) turned in a winning effort Saturday evening during the Gompei Invitational at WPI as he posted a score of 420.10 off the one-meter board.

Bridge won by 42.25 points with Bryant University freshman Kevin Sullivan finishing second.

Bentley's highest finish in a swimming event was a fourth in the 800 yard freestyle relay. Combining for a 7:04.98 were sophomore Aidan Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy), junior Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) and a pair of seniors, Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton HS) and Kevin Diefenbach (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert HS).

Karl (sixth, 4:48.83) and Karam (seventh, 4:50.58) were two of three Falcons who finished in the top eight of the 500 freestyle. That trio also included freshman Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS), who was eighth in 4:53.31.

Freshman Matt Gwozdecke (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic HS) had two top seven finishes as he was sixth in the 50 butterfly (23.75) and seventh in the 100 fly (53.40). Rounding out Bentley's list of finalists was senior Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS), who was seventh in the 50 free (21.85).

Bentley will enter Sunday's second full day of competition within reach of third place as the Falcons trail Bryant University by 108 points, 1126-1018. Stevens Tech (2249.5) and WPI (1900) are running away with the nine-team meet.

Sunday's action gets underway at 8:30 am.
