Griffin and Bomfim Shine but Bentley Falls to No. 3 Franklin Pierce

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley's goalkeepers Joe Griffin (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and Eduardo Bomfim (Salvador, Brazil) played tremendous games, but No. 3 ranked Franklin Pierce came away with a 3-1 victory over the men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon.

Griffin made six saves in the first half and Bomfim nine stops in the second half against a strong Ravens team that improved to 6-0 on the season.

One of Bomfim's nine saves was saving a penalty kick in the 82nd minute from Jonas Anchel. He made a highlight reel save to deny Younes Addar with his palms from close range in the 73rd minute.

The Ravens grabbed a 1-0 lead when Miguel Gutierrez scored in the 14th minute, but Bentley was able to keep it a one goal came until the 77th minute. The visitors went up 2-0 when Marc Lopez scored with a shot from 18 yards and took a deflection that gave Bomfim little chance to make the save.

Lopez scored his second goal in the 85th minute, but Bentley pulled a goal back with just 11 seconds left in the game.

Senior Chad Meyers (East Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) took a free kick from about 35 yards from the left, and sent it towards the far post.  Junior Lukas Drahos (Melrose, Mass./Mystic Valley) got behind the FPU defense to rise up and volley the ball past the keeper for the goal, his second of the year.

Bentley will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Saint Michael's.
