Bentley And Wilmington Battle To 1-1 Draw

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley men's soccer team and Wilmington University battled to a 1-1 draw in a non-conference match at the Bentley soccer field on Wednesday afternoon.

Falcons captain Ronan Fitzpatrick (Coventry, Conn./East Catholic) put Bentley ahead with a penalty kick goal in the 26th minute, his second goal of the season.

But the Wildcats were able to equalize in the 74th minute, after Yohan Kim finished off a quick passing move that started in midfield and ended with Ryuga Uchigashima feeding Kim pass on the near post for a shot from about eight yard out.

Bentley's goalkeepers, junior Joe Griffin (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) and graduate student Eduardo Bomfim (Salvador, Brazil) had strong games. Griffin made two saves in the first half and Bomfim had three saves in the second half. Both keepers were strong in the air as they helped keep the Wildcats at bay from 12 corner kicks.

Bentley's goal came after junior Lukas Drahos (Melrose, Mass./Mystic Valley) was fouled in the penalty area after a pass into the box.

Fitzpatrick was chosen to take the kick, and he beat Wilmington's keeper with a strong shot to the left side of the net.

The result moved Bentley's record to 1-2-2 on the season, while the Wildcats went to 1-2-2 as well.

The next game for the Falcons is their Northeast-10 Conference opener, on Sunday at home against Franklin Pierce at 12:00 pm.
