Fitzpatrick and McLoughlin Named Men’s Soccer Captains; Falcons Set to Open Season on Thursday

WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate student Ronan Fitzpatrick (Coventry, Conn./East Catholic) and senior Sean McLoughlin (Delran, N.J./Delran) have been named captains of the Bentley men's soccer team by head coach Gary Crompton.

"Ronan was a co-captain last season as well and he is one of the most talented and experienced players on our team," Crompton said. "He has been a top player for us over the course of his career. Leadership runs in the Fitzpatrick family as Ronan's older brother Tommy was also team captain for Bentley men's soccer. He is a pleasure to work with and he has the respect of our coaching staff and the players on the team as well."

"Sean McLoughlin will also wear the arm band this season," Crompton continued. "Sean is a talented defender that has a cultured left foot. He provides great service in the run of play and also on set plays. He is a versatile player that can play in defense or in midfield, is very vocal on the field and leads by example."

Fitzpatrick started 11 matches and notched three assists last year while he dealt with an injury in the middle of the season.

He is pursuing his MBA at Bentley after he earned his undergraduate degree in economics-finance last year. He was named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll for both the fall and spring semesters last year.

He is the second member of his family to serve as captain of the men's soccer program, after one of his older brothers, Tom, was captain of the 2014 team. He was a four-year member of the team and graduated from Bentley in 2015.

Their oldest brother, Conor, was a captain of the Boston College men's soccer team in 2011.

McLoughlin played in 15 matches last season, mostly as a fullback. He was one of five outfield players to clock over 1,000 minutes last season. He notched the assist on Johann Fraser's game-winning goal in Bentley's 2-1 Senior Night victory over Saint Rose.

He is majoring in finance, with a minor in date technologies, and was named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll for both the fall and spring semesters last year.

The Falcons are set open the 2022 season on Thursday with a home match against Molloy at 3:30 pm, the first of nine home matches and 16 matches overall.

Senior forward Patrick McMahon (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake) returns as the team's leading scorer after he netted five goals last season, and his three assists were also tied for the team lead. Sophomore Johann Fraser (Cambridge, Mass./Rindge & Latin) was quick to make an impact as a freshman last season and his tally of four goals suggests he is just getting started.

Seniors Eric Makhatadze (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and Chad Meyers (East Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) also got in on the goals last season with two each. This season they are expected to shuttle between midfield and defense.

Fellow senior Jack Aronson (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) was among the team leaders in minutes played after he claimed a starting spot in late September last season. He is expected to join McLoughlin as a stalwart on the backline.

The team also has a couple of potential impact additions from the transfer ranks. Graduate student goalie Eduardo Bomfim (Salvador, Brazil) joined from Division I Georgia Southern, and junior forward Karim Abultaif (London, England) joined from Division I Merrimack.
