Saint Anselm Scores Two Late Goals to Top Bentley, 3-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm broke a 1-1 tie with two goals in the final five-plus minutes to take a 3-1 victory over the Bentley University men's soccer team in its Northeast-10 Conference opener on Saturday.

The match was knotted up 1-1 after Bentley's Connor Mote (Lisle, Ill./Benet) scored a 79th minute goal to bring them level after the Hawks took a 1-0 lead early in the 2nd half.

But Saint Anselm took the lead back in the 85th minute with an unassisted goal by midfielder Patrick Sorensen.

Then with just 23 seconds left on the clock, Saint Anselm's Zach Elliot scored his second goal of the day to make it 3-1 and seal the points for the Hawks.

Elliot's first goal of the day in the 47th minute was cancelled out by Mote's second goal of the season in the 79th minute.

Senior Ronan Fitzpatrick (Coventry, Conn./East Catholic) and junior Jack Aronson (Syracuse, N.Y./Cazenovia) had the assist on the goal.

Bentley ended the game with a 17-13 edge in shots and 7-3 in corner kicks.

The Falcons (2-3, 0-1 NE10) will be back in action next Saturday when they visit American International.
