Bentley Drops Season Opener at Wilmington (Del.) 5-2

NEWARK, Del. – The Bentley University men's soccer team received goals from junior Eric Makhatadze (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and freshman James Gallagher (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake), but the Falcons dropped their season opener at Wilmington University (Del.) 5-2 on Thursday.

Makhatadze scored in the 25th minute on a penalty kick and Gallagher found the back of the net in the 90th minute.

But the host Wildcats received two goals each from Shoki Yoshida and Shawn Genus on their way to the win. Wilmington scored three times in a four minute span in the 1st half, with the goals coming from Genus (17th minute), Reinoud van Ejik (18th) and Yoshida (21st).

Bentley pulled a goal back after a foul by Wilmington in the penalty area resulted in a spot kick for the Falcons. Makhatadze stepped up to take it and beat Wildcats goalie Konstantinos Parisis to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the 25th minute.

Yoshida scored his second of the day just before halftime and Genus added his second in the 54th minute, before Gallagher scored for the Falcons in the 90th minute.

Bentley will next continue its season opening road trip on Saturday when they take on Holy Family in Philadelphia. Match time is set for 1:00 pm.
