NEWARK, Del. – The Bentley University men's soccer team received goals from junior Eric Makhatadze (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and freshman James Gallagher (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake), but the Falcons dropped their season opener at Wilmington University (Del.) 5-2 on Thursday.

Makhatadze scored in the 25^th minute on a penalty kick and Gallagher found the back of the net in the 90^th minute.

But the host Wildcats received two goals each from Shoki Yoshida and Shawn Genus on their way to the win. Wilmington scored three times in a four minute span in the 1^st half, with the goals coming from Genus (17^th minute), Reinoud van Ejik (18^th) and Yoshida (21^st).

Bentley pulled a goal back after a foul by Wilmington in the penalty area resulted in a spot kick for the Falcons. Makhatadze stepped up to take it and beat Wildcats goalie Konstantinos Parisis to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the 25^th minute.

Yoshida scored his second of the day just before halftime and Genus added his second in the 54^th minute, before Gallagher scored for the Falcons in the 90^th minute.

Bentley will next continue its season opening road trip on Saturday when they take on Holy Family in Philadelphia. Match time is set for 1:00 pm.
