On This Day, 2019: Stewart Scores and Assists in Bentley’s 2-1 Win over Le Moyne

On October 5, 2019, senior Julian Stewart scored and set up goals in the second half as the Bentley men's soccer team defeated Le Moyne 2-1 on the Bentley soccer field.

Stewart scored in the 69th minute to give Bentley a 1-0 lead and provided the assist on a goal by freshman Patrick McMahon in the 75th minute. With the win, Bentley improved to 3-1 in the NE10 and 5-3 overall. The victory extended the team's home unbeaten streak to 14 games (10-0-4).

Senior Colby Gould and McMahon were involved in the lead up to Stewart's goal. McMahon passed to Gould, who made a run down the left wing before sending a cross from deep into the box. Stewart ran on to it and volleyed Gould's cross into the back of the net from six yards to give Bentley the lead and break the deadlock after 69-plus minutes of scoreless play.

For Bentley's second goal, Stewart spun away from a Le Moyne defender to create a two-on-one. McMahon took the pass and finished from 12 yards out to double the lead.

Le Moyne's Brandon Mimas added a late goal off a free kick sent in by Tom Henne in the 90th minute, but Bentley was able to run out the remaining time to seal the win.

Bentley keeper Nick Maldarella (Saint James, N.Y./St. John's) made four saves to earn the win.
