Mote Scores Twice in Bentley’s 2-2 Draw With Saint Rose

Waltham, Mass. – Sophomore right back Connor Mote (Lisle, Ill./Benet) scored both goals as the Bentley men's soccer team tied with Saint Rose 2-2 on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights came into the game with a 6-0 record (3-0 NE10), which gives Bentley its second straight strong result after the 2-1 win over Merrimack in midweek.

Saint Rose scored first with a goal in the 21st minute from leading scorer Filippo Bellu, but Bentley answered back 18 minutes later with Mote's first of the season. After a foul to give Bentley a free kick, left back Courtland Pavek (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./St. Anthony's) sent the kick in from just inside the halfway point of the field. The ball landed to Mote on the right side of the penalty box that he ran onto, and after a few dribbles he shot and scored from 12 yards to the far post.

The score remained 1-1 well into the second half, until Mote struck again the 75th minute. He gained possession just inside the center of the field and dribbled all the way into the 18 yard box, where he again went far post, this time to the upper corner, to give Bentley a 2-1 lead.

Saint Rose though struck back and tied the game with just under five minutes remaining, as midfielder Paulo Sdoia headed in a free kick in the six yard box to make it 2-2.

Bentley probably had the best scoring chance in overtime, in the final minute, when a long free kick by Mote was just tipped away by Saint Rose keeper Gianni Carillo.

With the tie, Bentley's record moved to 3-2-2 overall and 1-2-1 NE10 for four points. Their next game is Tuesday night at Adelphi.
