No. 10 Bentley Tops SNHU 16-5 to Clinch First Round Bye

 

WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 10 ranked Bentley defeated Southern New Hampshire 16-5 on Wednesday night to clinch a first round bye in the upcoming Northeast-10 Men's Lacrosse Championship.

Sophomore Garrett Witt (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) scored a career-high five goals and senior Luke Jaber (Milton, Mass./BC High) notched four goals as the Falcons earned the win in the final game of the regular season.

Bentley shutout the Penmen for the final 33-plus minutes of the game and finished the contest on a 10-0 run. There were several stellar defensive performances, led by senior Bryan Powers (Holden, Mass./Wachusett) with two caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Goalkeeper Jackson Tinsley (Beverly Hills, Mich.) made nine saves to earn the win. Cam Bartolomeo (Meriden, Conn./Xavier) went 16-24 in the faceoff circle with six ground balls.

Bentley finished the regular season with records of 9-5 overall and 8-2 in the NE10 and will be the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. They will host a semifinal game on Wednesday, May 3 against either Adelphi or SNHU at 7:00 PM.

Witt scored the first four goals of the game as Bentley jumped out to a 4-0 lead just before the five-minute mark of the opening quarter. He scored twice in the first four-plus minutes, then later in the quarter scored twice 30 seconds apart at the 5:50 and 5:20 marks.

SNHU got on the board with a goal by Jack Terrones at the 43 second mark of the 1st quarter.

The 2nd quarter was more even with Penmen outscoring Bentley 4-3. Jaber, Conor Segreti (Darnestown, Md./St. John's) and Nicholas Thorn-Guillaro (Wilbraham, Mass./Wilbraham-Monson) had the Bentley goals.

But after halftime the Falcons reasserted themselves and shutout the Penmen 9-0 in the 2nd half.  Jaber had three goals in the third quarter and Witt got his 5th of the game in the 4th quarter.
