Bentley Men’s Lacrosse Opens 2020 Season Saturday at Home

Waltham, Mass. – The Bentley men's lacrosse team gets its 2020 season started on Saturday when they host NE10 rival Le Moyne at 11:00 am. The Falcons are ranked 19th in this week's USILA poll.

Though wins and playing well will always be a goal this season, the team's hearts and minds will be on remembering and honoring their teammate Max Evensen, a senior at Bentley who tragically passed away in December. Each time the team takes the field this season, thoughts will be with Max and his family.

The 2020 edition of the Bentley men's lacrosse team will be led by senior captains Matt Brooks (Brunswick, Maine/Phillips Exeter), Michael Haggan (Braintree, Mass./BC High) and Michael Fricke (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Valor).

Head coach Jim Murphy, now in his 28th season as Bentley's head coach and the 2019 NE10 Coach of the Year, has a strong basis for his team with Haggan leading the team in the cage. The senior from Braintree was a second team All-NE10 performer last season and returns as one of the top goalies in the conference this season.

Defensively, Nick Colstad (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor's Academy), Matt Dold (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and Matt Mulcahy (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) return as the most experienced players. Mulcahy and Colstad led the team in caused turnovers last season, while Dold was named Preseason All-New England.

Junior Connor Baughan (Foxborough, Mass./Portsmouth), a short stick defensive midfielder, will be another key defensive player for the Falcons. He was tabbed a Preseason second team All-American by Inside Lacrosse. Baughan led the team with 40 ground balls last season and was named third team All-Conference.

In the face-off circle, senior Nick Irby (Groton, Mass./Groton) took the vast majority of draws last season and his experience will be vital in battling for gaining crucial possessions off the draw.

Among the offensive players, Brooks returns as the team's leading scorer after he scored 22 goals last season. Junior Kris Campbell (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) had a strong sophomore season with 17 goals, third most on the team, and he was one of the team's leading playmakers with 11 assists.

Senior Joey Tesoriero (Huntington Station, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills), along with Fricke and Mark Galione (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield), will be players the team looks for to score after they were each in the top eight on the team in goals last season.

Looking ahead at the schedule after Saturday's opener against Le Moyne, Bentley will next play two non-conference games, home against NYIT on March 7 and away to Mercy on March 10. That is followed by an away game against Saint Rose on March 14, before consecutive home games against Franklin Pierce (March 21) and Assumption (March 24).

Bentley's home games in April will see them host Pace on April 11 and Adelphi on April 18.

All Bentley games this season will be streamed live, with the vast majority on NE10. For the full schedule, head to https://bentleyfalcons.com/sports/mlax/2019-20/schedule
