Bentley Wins Third Straight Game, 9-4 Over Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bentley men's lacrosse team booked its third straight win on Saturday, as they knocked off Northeast-10 rival Assumption 9-4 on Saturday afternoon.

Senior attacker John Wheeler (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) led the offense with three goals and one assist. Senior Max Adler (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Northfield Mt/ Hermon) won 13-16 face-offs and scooped up seven ground balls, and reigning NE10 Goalie of Week Ben Bath (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) made eight saves.

Bentley dominated the first half, and blanked the Greyhound through the first 30 minutes to lead 7-0 at halftime. Assumption finally got on the scoreboard 2:41 into the 3rd quarter, and scored again at the 7:16 mark to make it a 7-2 game But Bentley goals from senior David Phelps (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) and freshman Matt Brooks (Brunswick, Maine/Phillips Exeter) gave the Falcons a comfortable 9-3 lead going into the 4th quarter.

Wheeler got Bentley off to a good start with the game's first goal 2:20 into the opening quarter, and just 40 seconds later Joe DiRaimo (Huntington, N.Y./John Glenn) found the back of the net to put them up 2-0.  Wheeler's 2nd goal of the quarter, with 2:51 remaining, saw the Falcons lead 3-0 going into the 2nd quarter.

Sophomore Alex Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) put Bentley up 4-0 with a goal at the 8:03 mark of the 2nd quarter. Following a period of about four minutes without a goal, Bentley then struck three times in a minute and a half. Wheeler, sophomore Sam Hurley (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and junior Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) had the goals.

With the win, Bentley improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in NE10 games. They will go for their 4th straight victory on Tuesday night against Southern New Hampshire for the team's home opener.
