Pace Rallies in 2nd Half to Defeat Bentley 11-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Pace used a 6-1 2nd half to rally from a four goal deficit at halftime to upend the Bentley men's lacrosse team 11-10 in a Northeast-10 matchup on Wednesday night.

Despite Pace's rally Bentley still had a chance to tie on the final possession. A shot by John Wheeler (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) was blocked, but Wheeler regained possession and Bentley called timeout with 32 seconds left. Following the timeout the final possession was setup, but Joe DiRaimo's (Huntington, N.Y./John Glenn) shot was saved by Pace goalie Robert Beshlian to secure the win.

The Falcons led 9-5 at halftime, buoyed by a 5-2 2nd quarter that saw Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) and Alex Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) each score twice. DiRaimo scored the final goal of the half with 35 seconds remaining to complete a first half hat trick to make it a 9-5 game at the break.

Pace though began to chip away in the 3rd quarter as they outscored Bentley 3-1. Bentley's only goal, which turned out to be its last of the night, came from Wheeler at the 8:33 mark of the quarter. A goal by Pace attacker Anthony Gadaleta with 49 seconds left cut the deficit to 10-8 heading into the final 15 minutes.

The Setters then scored their three fourth quarter goals inside the first seven-plus minutes. Attacker Matthew Cossidente scored the tying goal at the 9:47 mark, followed by the go-ahead goal by Bradley Peterson with 8:41 remaining, which was the last goal of the game.

Junior Max Adler (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Northfield Mt. Hermon) dominated in the face-off circle for Bentley. He won 23-25 draws and collected 18 ground balls.

The defeat dropped Bentley's records to 6-4 overall and 5-3 Northeast-10, while Pace improved to 9-5 overall and 5-4 NE-10. Bentley will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host Merrimack.
