Bentley Falls to No. 4 Adelphi 19-7

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Bentley saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday night with a 19-7 defeat to No. 4 ranked and 2nd place in the Northeast-10 Adelphi.

The Falcons dug themselves an early hole that they could not get out of after the Panthers scored four times in the first eight-plus minutes of the first quarter, and trailed 6-0 after the opening 15 minutes.

Adelphi scored the first two goals of the 2nd quarter, one coming from attacker Sal Tuttle, which was one of his game high six, before Bentley got on the board. That goal saw the Astarita brothers connect, as Alex (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) score off a feed from his older brother Mike at the 8:10 mark. Sophomore Joe DiRaimo (Huntington, N.Y./John Glenn) also scored for the Falcons at the 6:44 mark, but the Panthers led 13-2 at halftime.

The Falcons held a 2-1 advantage in the 3rd quarter. The Astarita brothers combined for another goal, with Mike setting up Alex again at the 11:02 mark. Bentley kept the Panthers off the scoreboard deep into the quarter until Tuttle scored a man-up goal with 3:33 left in the quarter. Junior John Wheeler (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) found the back of the net for Bentley with 2:44 to go.

In the 4th quarter, Bentley received goals from freshmen Scott Carvalho (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) and Sam Hurley (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) and a man-up goal from senior Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth).

With the defeat the Falcons fell to 6-3 overall and 5-2 NE-10. Their next game is Wednesday night at home vs. Pace.
