Bentley Shuts Down Saint Rose in NY 8-3

ALBANY, N.Y. – Bentley put in another strong defensive performance in an 8-3 victory at Northeast-10 rival Saint Rose on Tuesday in Albany, running its conference record to 5-1.

The Falcons allowed the Golden Knights just 8 shots on goal, and have now given up just five goals in their last two games after last Friday's 12-2 win over AIC. Bentley caused 10 turnovers and won the ground ball battle 32-21, led by midfielder Elijah Morrissey (Rowley, Mass./Governor's Academy) with five. Face-off man Max Adler (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./NHM) won 10 of 14 draws to help maintain possession throughout.

The offense came from the team's three leading goal scorers; Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow), John Wheeler (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) who each had two goals. Chris Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) and freshman Sam Hurley (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) had a goal each.

Bentley did the most damage in the 1st quarter as they raced out to a 4-1 lead. Brigham and Wheeler scored inside the game's first four minutes, followed by goals from Wiggins and Sanford.

In the 3rd quarter Wheeler extended the team's lead to 6-2 at the 9:50 mark before Saint Rose made it a 6-3 game with a man-up goal by attacker Josh Frese with 7:24 left in the quarter. That however, was the last goal Bentley allowed. Brigham and Hurley scored goals in the first three-plus minutes of the 4th quarter make it an 8-3 game.

Senior goalie Daniel Shaughnessy (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) made five saves and collected four ground balls in earning his 6th win of the season.

With the victory, Bentley improves to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the NE-10 ahead of its next game Saturday at 4th ranked Adelphi.
