WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption College came away with a 12-6 win over Bentley University in a Northeast-10 men's lacrosse matchup on Wednesday night. Senior attack Matt Dente (Reading, Mass./Reading) had three goals for the Falcons.

The Greyhounds outscored Bentley 6-3 in the third quarter, turning a 4-2 lead for the hosts at halftime into a 10-5 lead going into the fourth. Assumption then added two more goals in the first seven minutes of the final quarter for a 12-5 lead.

Assumption led 3-1 after the first quarter, aided by two goals in the first three-plus minutes for an early 2-0 lead. Dente scored his first of the night in a man-up situation at the 3:35 mark to make it a 2-1 game, before Assumption's Paul Curran found the back of the net with 1:44 remaining.

Only two goals were scored in the second quarter. The first came from Assumption's Garrett Smith at the 7:51 mark, the second of his three goals of the game. Bentley's Mike Giorgetti (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) scored just before halftime, with nine seconds remaining, to make it a 4-2 lead for the Greyhounds after 30 minutes.

The third quarter was a quarter of runs, as Assumption had two, 3-0 runs and the Falcons had a 3-0 run of their own. Assumption's first run came in the opening 4:10, which included a man-up goal from midfielder Ty Martina.

Bentley then went to work. Dente scored his second of the night at the 9:58 mark. Freshman Matt Sanford (Stratham, N.H./Bow) and senior Bobby Hinds (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) followed with goals just 31 seconds apart, starting with Sanford's goal with 6:50 remaining. Hinds' goal came in a man-up situation to get the Falcons to within 7-5.

But Assumption closed the quarter with another 3-0 run, with the goals coming in the last 2:48, with the last one coming from midfielder Peter Gersbeck with 16 seconds left, to take a 10-5 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Greyhounds got  a man-up goal from Curran 30 seconds into the quarter, and another goal from Smith at the 7:14 mark to take a 12-5 lead. Dente scored his third of the game, assisted by midfielder Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) with 6:31 to play.

Assumption improves to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in NE-10 play with the win, while the Falcons drop to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the NE-10. The team's next game is Saturday at home against AIC.
