Dente Scores in 2OT to Give Bentley 8-7 Win over Saint Rose

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Matt Dente (Reading, Mass./Reading) scored 2:23 into the second overtime to give the Bentley University men's lacrosse team an 8-7 victory over Saint Rose in Northeast-10 play Saturday night.

The first ever meeting between the two programs went down to the wire with the Falcons emerging victorious to snap a four game losing streak. Freshman Matt Brigham (Providence, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) set the goal up, feeding Dente a pass from the goal line to the left elbow. Dente then beat Saint Rose goalie Nick Longo to the short side for the winning goal.

A high scoring first half, tied 5-5 at halftime, turned into a defensive struggle in the second half with only five goals combined.

Bentley trailed 7-6 in the fourth quarter, but tied it at the 5:54 mark on a goal by senior Tim Matheson (Reading, Mass./Reading). They also trailed 6-5 in the third quarter, but a man-up goal by Brigham at the 9:15 mark knotted things up.

The Falcons led 3-1 after the first quarter, but a 4-0 run by the Golden Knights put them in front 4-3 with four minutes gone in the second quarter. But Bentley scored two straight man up goals, from sophomore Doug Mahony (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) and Brigham, to take a 5-4 lead 5:26 before halftime.

Junior goalie Brian Karl (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) earned the win for Bentley, who improve to 2-5 on the season and 2-4 in the NE-10. Saint Rose drops to 2-8 and 2-4.

Bentley is back in action Tuesday night when they visit No. 4 Merrimack.
