COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael's outscored Bentley 9-2 in the second half on its way to a 14-7 win on Tuesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 men's lacrosse matchup.

The Falcons looked good early on, jumping out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals just 39 seconds apart. Junior Steve Caditz (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) netted the first one at the 9:58 mark, and after the ensuing face-off win by Connor Price (Hamden, Conn./Hamden), senior Richard Travers (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) scored right after.

Saint Michael's though tied the game up with two goals of its own in quick succession, coming from sophomore Connor Glackin at 5:53 and junior attack Pete Donnally at 4:19.

The teams traded goals in the early part of the second quarter to make the score 3-3, but Bentley jumped ahead at 5-3 with 5:34 left in the half when Travers and Caditz scored their seconds of the half.

The Purple Knights though finished the half strong, getting goals from sophomore Tim McDonald and Glackin in the final 1:52 to send the game into halftime tied at five.

That flourish by Saint Michael's proved to be precursor of what happened in the second half.

Donnally scored just 29 seconds into the half, the second of his four goals on the afternoon, to give them their first lead of the game, but Bentley sophomore Steve Taylor (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island) tied it up at the 12:06 mark with his first career goal.

But after Taylor's goal, the Purple Knights started to run away with it. Defenseman Neil Kelly scored at the 7:43 mark to give them the lead, and that was the first of eight straight Saint Michael's goals. They scored two more in the third quarter to lead 9-6 after 45 minutes, and led 14-6 late in the fourth before freshman Matt Dente (Reading, Mass./Reading) scored his first career goal to break the run.

The win is the fifth straight for the Purple Knights, who improve to 6-1 on the season and 2-1 in the NE-10. Bentley drops to 1-3 and 1-1 in the NE-10.

The Falcons will look to get back on the winning track on April 4 at Saint Anselm.
