Grabko, Special Teams Lead Bentley to 3-0 Win over Air Force

USAFA, Colo. – Senior goalie Nicholas Grabko made 22 saves for his second shutout of the season and Bentley's special teams excelled in a 3-0 win at Air Force on Saturday night.

Freshman Kellan Hjartarson scored a power play goal early in the second period to give Bentley a 1-0 lead.

In the third period Bentley's penalty kill helped add to the lead and keep it.

At the 9:25 mark of the 3rd frame Bentley was called for a five-minute major penalty to put the PK into action. Just 34 seconds into the PK, sophomore Stephen Castagna scored shorthanded to make it 2-0, with his second goal of the season.

The rest of the PK went by with Grabko making two saves and the defense blocking three shots.

As the period wound down Air Force pulled its goalie Guy Blessing for an extra attacker. But an empty net goal by defenseman Nick Bochen, from the other end of the ice, made it 3-0 at 16:02 and sealed the win.

Hjartarson's goal at 2:59 of the second period was assisted by Ryan Mansfield and Seth Bernard-Docker, and came off a rip from the top of the right face-off circle.

Castagna's goal came after he took a pass from Garrett Horsager along the boards in the defensive zone and he streaked into the offensive zone down the right wing. His shot from above the right faceoff circle beat Blessing above his glove.

Bochen's goal from about 180 feet was his third of the year.

Grabko meanwhile turned away all 22 shots he faced and helped Bentley's penalty kill go 6-6 on the night. It's his 5th win of the season.

Bentley's next game is on December 9 at Maine for the final game of the first semester.
