Two Quick Fire Goals Propel Bentley to 4-1 Win over UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – With the game tied 1-1 in the third period, Bentley scored two goals just 12 seconds apart to propel them to a 4-1 victory over UMass Lowell in the first game of the Turkey Leg Classic.

The win gave Falcons head coach Andy Jones a triumphant return to the school where he was the associate head coach and assistant coach for eight seasons before he arrived at Bentley in June.

After a scoreless first period where Falcons goalie Connor Hasley made 10 saves, the River Hawks took a 1-0 lead at the 5:57 mark of the 2nd period on a goal by Dillan Bentley.

From that point on however, it was almost all Falcons. They outshot Lowell by an astounding 31-3 over the 34-plus minutes after the River Hawks' goal.

The final shots tally was 40-15 in favor of the Falcons.

Bentley tied the score at 16:57 of the second frame on a goal by Arlo Merritt, who fired in a one-timer at the edge of the right circle after he took a pass from Ryan Mansfield.

Tied 1-1 early in the third period, Bentley scored twice in just 12 seconds to take command at 3-1.

First, it was freshman Kellan Hjartarson scoring in front of the net off a second chance shot from his own initial shot that was saved. The power play goal was Hjartarson's second goal of the season and was assisted by Chase Davis and Josh Latta.

Then off the ensuing faceoff win by Merritt, defenseman Ryan Nause fired a shot on net that was tipped-in by Ryan Upson for a 3-1 lead at the 4:01 mark.

Bentley didn't allow Lowel many opportunities the rest of the way, and an empty-net goal by Jonathan Bendorf from the defensive zone at 17:46 sealed the win.

The Falcons will take on Merrimack in the second game of the Turkey Leg Classic on Saturday at 4:00 pm in North Andover.
