Late Defensive Stand Helps Bentley Defeat Niagara 2-1 for 5th Consecutive Home Win

WALTHAM, Mass. - In the second game of a two-game series, Bentley defeated the Niagara Purple Eagles 2-1 to complete the weekend sweep. Goaltender Nicholas Grabko was excellent, stopping 24 of 25 shots for the victory. With the win, Bentley improved to 6-4-0 on the season and 4-2-0 in AHA conference play.

It took 12 minutes and 39 seconds for Bentley to break the ice. A little over halfway through the first, Chase Davis rifled a one-timer from the slot past goaltender Jarrett Fiske. Josh Latta set up the play, and Ryan Mansfield recorded an assist as well to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. It was Davis's second goal of the season.

A few minutes later, Niagara scored on the power play with a goal from Luke Mylymok. Josef Mysak and Alex Murray recorded assists on the play for the Purple Eagles.

Neither team was able to generate much in the second period. A great opportunity came for Niagara's Aron Jessli on a breakaway, but Grabko denied the opportunity.

With 2:04 to play in the second, Bentley took the lead back, 2-1, with a Sam Duerr wrist shot from the left circle. Jimmy Doyle and Kellan Hjartarson each recorded an assist on the go-ahead goal.

Bentley maintained its 2-1 lead throughout the third period and closed out the victory down at least one man for the final 4:16.

Already on the power play, Niagara pulled Fiske with 3:14 remaining to create a two-man advantage for 58 seconds.

Defenseman Garrett Horsager blocked two Niagara shots to help kill off the power play, which expired with 2:16 remaining.

Fiske remained on the bench for the extra attacker and Niagara kept the puck in its offensive zone nearly the entire time. Grabko came up with four saves down the stretch, Tanner Main blocked three shots and Horsager blocked another until the clock finally hit zero.

Bentley is now 6-2-0 in their last 8 games, and will visit Holy Cross Friday night at 7:00 P.M.
