Roswell Named Finalist for Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University's Ethan Roswell (Paradise Valley, Arizona) was named a finalist on Thursday for the Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award by the Hockey Commissioners Association.

Only one student-athlete from each of the six conferences in Division I men's hockey is nominated for the award.

The HCA states that the winner displays "exemplary sportsmanship, is supremely competitive, intelligent and extraordinarily conditioned with an unmatched work ethic."

The award was established by the HCA in honor of former Army player Derek Hines, who was a "consummate team player and team builder." Hines played at Army from 1999-2003 and was a four-year letter-winner as well as a co-captain his senior season. He was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 1, 2005 in Afghanistan.

Roswell, a senior defenseman, is Bentley's team captain this season. He is currently tied for fifth nationally in blocked shots with 83.

Earlier this season he was named one of just 20 candidates for the 2021-22 Men's Hockey Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes senior student-athletes who have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.

An economics-finance major, he was named an All-American Scholar by the American Hockey Coaches Association for the 2020-21 season. He is also a three-time Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team selection in his career.

Roswell is also an active member of the Bentley community. He serves as Vice President of Bentley's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Within SAAC, he serves on both the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and the Mental Health Committee.

The other finalists for the Derek Hines Award are Jake Pivonka from Notre Dame (Big Ten), Wyatt Aamodt from Minnesota State (CCHA), Linden Marshall from Rensselaer (ECAC), Jordan Seyfert from Merrimack (Hockey East) and Mark Senden from North Dakota (NCHC).

The winner will be announced on Friday, April 8 at the Frozen Four.
