Kodsi’s Two Goals Helps Bentley to 4-1 Game Two Win and Sweep of Niagara

LEWISTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Cole Kodsi (Boca Raton, Fla.) scored two third period goals to help lead Bentley to a 4-1 win over Niagara in Game Two on Saturday night and a sweep of the first round series in the Atlantic Hockey playoffs.

The Falcons advance on to next weekend's quarterfinals, where they will meet AIC on the road in a best of three series.

Bentley led 2-1 going into the 3rd period, but the two goals by Kodsi helped put the game away.

His first of the night came with 15:28 left in the period. A long pass by Drew Bavaro (Bradenton, Fla.) from the defensive zone led to Kodsi streaking down the left wing. Kodsi continued to drive on the net and got a shot off that Niagara goalie Chad Veltri saved. Kodsi though got his own rebound and scored on a wrap-around to give Bentley a 3-1 lead.

His second goal of the night with 3:27 left in the game essentially sealed the win. Dylan Pitera (Culver, Ind.) drove into the offensive zone down the right and behind Niagara's net, followed by a pass back to the point and defenseman Tucker Hodgson (Grand Forks, N.D.). Hodgson put a shot on net that Kodsi, stationed near the goal, deflected in for a 4-1 lead.

Niagara had the extra-attacker on the rest of the game as Bentley booked its trip to the quarterfinals.

The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, as Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Kohei Sato (Nishitokyo, Japan) scored just over a minute apart.

Hamblet, playing in his 150th career game, scored on the power play with 7:36 left in the first period for a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Luke Orysiuk (Edmonton, Alberta) fed him a centering pass from the right face-off circle and Hamblet battled for position in front of the net to redirect the pass into the back of the net.

Just 1:10 later Sato scored his 4th goal of the season to make it 2-0. Defenseman Ethan Roswell (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) fed the puck down low that freshman Cooper Connell (West Vancouver, B.C.) retrieved behind Niagara's net. He then fed a pass out in front through traffic that Sato battled for to get the goal.

Niagara pulled a goal back with 5:43 remaining in the period off the stick of Walker Sommer to make it a 2-1 game.

But that was the only goal Niagara scored on the night.

Graduate student Evan DeBrowuer (Blenheim, Ontario) made 18 saves to earn his second win of the series and ninth of the season.

Bentley and AIC split their only two games this season, both played in Springfield.
