Bavaro Named Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University's Drew Bavaro (Bradenton, Fla.) was named the Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, the league announced.

It's the second time this season he's earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor from Atlantic Hockey.

He had a career-high four points, two goals and two assists, to help Bentley to a 7-4 road victory over Canisius on Friday night. He scored at 2:33 of the 3rd period to break a 3-3 tie and give Bentley the lead, then scored a power play goal at 15:47 of the 3rd to put the Falcons ahead 6-4.

Earlier in the game he had assists on goals by Matt Lombardozzi and Ethan Harrison.

On the season Bavaro leads Bentley in each of goals (9), assists (12) and points (21).

Nationally, he is tied for the second most goals among defensemen and he ranks tied for eighth in points among defensemen.

As announced last week, Bavaro is on the ballot for the 2022 Hobey Baker Award. Fans can cast their votes for Drew once a day through March 6 at https://hobeybaker.com/awards/vote-for-hobey/

After the Falcons took four points from their series at Canisius over the weekend, they are tied for second place in the Atlantic Hockey standings with 30 points from a 10-6 record. The team is 12-10 overall.

Bentley is next in action on Friday night when they host RIT to begin a weekend series.
