Bentley Erupts for Six Goals in Game One Win over Canisius

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley got the Atlantic Hockey postseason off to a strong start with a 6-1 victory over Canisius in game one of the AHA first round series on Friday night.

Sophomore forward Brendan Walkom (Pittsburg, Pa.) scored two goals. Seniors Ryner Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn.) and Brett Orr (Elkhorn, Manitoba) were also among the goal scorers. Senior goalie Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) made 18 stops to earn his third win in a row.

It was another member of the senior class that reached a milestone on this night, as Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec) had three assists to surpass the 100 career points milestone.

Defenseman Charlie Marchand (Edmonton, Alberta) scored the game's first goal at 8:06 of the first period with a shot from the point that got through traffic in front of the net, after he took a pass from down low by Michael Zuffante (Bloomingdale, Ill.).

Gorowsky and Desbiens teamed up to give Bentley a 2-0 lead at the 14:31 mark of the first period. Marchand sent a pass into the offensive zone for Desbiens to create a two-on-one with Gorowsky, and a perfectly timed pass by Desbiens set up Gorowsky for the goal.

Senior Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.) made it 3-0 with a goal at 6:12 of the 2nd period, after he rifled in a shot from the high slot after taking a pass from Dylan Pitera (Culver, Indiana). It was on this goal that Desbiens recorded his 100th point, with the secondary assist.

Bentley then pulled away with two goals just 39 seconds apart for a 5-0 lead. Orr scored with a shot from inside the blue line at 11:43 for his 4th goal of the year. Then off the ensuing face-off, freshman Lucas Vanroboys (Thamesville, Ontario) setup Walkom for his first of the night at 12:22.

Canisius' Nick Hutchison broke up the shutout bid with a goal in the 3rd period, but Walkom and Vanroboys teamed up again for a goal at 9:35 for Bentley's 6th goal of the night.

With the game one win, Bentley will look to finish the series off in game two on Saturday night at Bentley Arena. Game time is 7:05 pm.
