Bentley Tops Niagara 4-2 to Complete Series Sweep

Waltham, Mass. – Junior Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) scored two goals on the night of his 100th career game to help the Bentley hockey team defeat Niagara 4-2 on Saturday night at Bentley Arena to complete a series sweep.

The Falcons have now won four games in a row, and improved their Atlantic Hockey record to 10-11-2.

Goals by Santerno and Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.) in the 1st period and Michael Zuffante (Bloomingdale, Ill.) in the 2nd period staked Bentley to a 3-0 lead. Bentley held that lead into the 3rd period, which led to Niagara pulling goalie Brian Wilson for an extra attacker with 5:40 left in the game.

Niagara got two goals with the extra attacker on, from Ryan Cox and Ben Sokay, to make it a 3-2 game with 2:56 remaining. Bentley though regained control and drained about two minutes of clock, and Santerno finished it off with an empty net goal from center ice for his second goal of the night with 37 seconds remaining.

Santerno got Bentley started with his 5th goal of the year just 2:41 into the game. Santerno won a face-off in the offensive zone and played the puck back to defenseman Connor Brassard (Fitchburg, Mass.). Brassard put a shot on net as Santerno cycled towards the net, and he tipped Brassard's shot past Wilson to light the lamp.

Just before the midway point of the 1st period, Gosiewski made it 2-0 for the Falcons with his 10th goal of the season. Gosiewski gathered the puck off the stick of a Niagara player in the neutral zone and along the left side boards. Gosiewski then glided into the offensive zone and fired a shot past Wilson for the goal at 9:27.

Bentley got its 3rd goal of the game in the 2nd period, off the stick of Zuffante on the power play at the 7:59 mark. Defenseman Matt Lombardozzi (Leominster, Mass.) worked the puck over to Will Garin (Mound, Minn.) who put a shot on net from the left face-off circle. Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) first got a tip on the shot, then Zuffante redirected the puck past Wilson for his 4th goal of the season.

That was the only goal of the period as Bentley headed into the 3rd ahead 3-0.

Falcons goalie Fraser Kirk (Burlington, Ontario) made 23 saves to earn his 2nd win of the weekend and 7th of the season.

Bentley will look to keep its winning streak going next Friday when they host Army West Point.
