Northeastern Scores Twice Late to Clip Bentley 4-2

Boston, Mass. – No. 11 ranked Northeastern broke a 2-2 tie with two goals late in the 3rd period to take a hard fought 4-2 victory over the Bentley hockey team on Monday night at Matthews Arena.

A power play goal by Bentley's Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) tied the game 2-2 with 11:20 remaining in a game that was tight the whole way. Then with overtime looking likely with under two minutes remaining, the Huskies scored twice 26 seconds apart to emerge with the 4-2 win.

That despite Bentley outshooting Northeastern 28-17 on the night, and holding them to 11 shots through two periods.

Northeastern led 1-0 after the first period on a power play goal with just 1:01 remaining by left wing Aidan McDonough. Neither team scored in the 2nd period to set the stage for a five-goal 3rd period.

Just 1:57 into the final period, Bentley's Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec) got his team on the board and tied the game 1-1 with his 4th goal of the season. Desbiens ripped a shot into the top corner from the right post, after he took a short pass in front of the net from Ryner Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn.).

Bentley almost went ahead 2-1 minutes later, but Huskies goalie Craig Pantano made a pad save to deny freshman Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.) on the far post after he took a sharp cross-ice pass from Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.).

Shortly after that missed chance, it was NU went ahead 2-1 when center Tyler Madden scored on a one-timer to give them the lead at the 4:42 mark.

Bentley though responded with a tying goal again, this time on the power play. Santerno had a shot on the door step saved by Pantano, but Novak fought through traffic in front to knock in the loose puck. That tied the game 2-2 with 11:20 left and was his 12th goal of the year.

The clock ticked under the two minute mark with the game still knotted 2-2, but Northeastern's Matt Filipe scored the go-ahead goal with 1:44 remaining. 26 seconds later, center Zach Solow scored the game's last goal to provide the 4-2 final margin.

Falcons goalie Fraser Kirk (Burlington, Ontario) made 13 saves, while Pantano made 26 stops.

Northeastern (13-5-2) won its 3rd game in a row, while Bentley falls to 8-11-1. The Falcons will next be in action at home this weekend when they host Canisius to open a four game home stand.
