Desbiens Scores Late Goal in Bentley’s 2-2 Tie with Dartmouth

Hanover, N.H. – Senior Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec) scored the tying goal with 2:05 left in regulation to help Bentley skate to a 2-2 tie at Dartmouth on Thursday night in the final game of the first half of the season.

The Falcons trailed 2-1 late in the 3rd period, but a Dartmouth penalty for elbowing with 2:54 remaining sent them to the power play. They took advantage of that opportunity to score the tying goal, as a shot by Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) that was saved by Dartmouth goalie Adrian Clark created a big rebound. The rebound fell to Desbiens on the left wing, and he rifled a shot past Clark for the tying goal.

Neither team found the winning goal over the final two minutes of regulation or in overtime and the game ended 2-2, which was Bentley's first tie of the year.

Desbiens' goal was the second straight year he scored a late tying goal against Dartmouth. In last season's meeting between these two teams at Bentley Arena, Desbiens scored with 19 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime tied 3-3, which is how the game ended.

In that game last season Bentley rallied from a 2-0 deficit to eventually force the tie, and they did so again tonight.

The Big Green led 2-0 after a power play goal by Jeff Losurdo at 8:33 of the 1st period, and a goal by Sam Hesler at 10:01 of the 2nd period. Shortly after Hesler's goal though, an interference penalty sent the Falcons to the power play.

Bentley converted less than a minute into the man-advantage, as Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) found Will Garin (Mound, Minn.) open on the far post with a sharp pass from the right face-off circle for Garin's 3rd goal of the season at 11:18 of the 2nd period.

That cut the deficit to 2-1, and neither team scored again until Desbiens with just over two minutes left in regulation.

Falcons goalie Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario) made 29 saves, while Dartmouth's Clark made 27 stops.

Bentley ends the first half with a 7-9-1 record. They will return to the ice in a little over two weeks when they visit Sacred Heart on Dec. 28-29.
