Jago Named to First Team for Men's Hockey Senior CLASS Award
Waltham, Mass. – Bentley University's Tanner Jago (Brandon, Manitoba) was selected to the first team for the Division I men's hockey Senior CLASS Award on Friday, which recognizes the sport's most outstanding senior student-athletes.
Jago, Bentley's team captain and a defenseman, was announced as one of 10 finalists for the award back in February. A vote conducted among Division I head coaches and national media now recognized him as one of the top-five for the award with a selection to the first team.
According the official release, "the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition."
On the ice Jago was one of the top defensemen in Atlantic Hockey throughout his career. He was named 2nd team All-Conference this season. His 28 points (9 goals, 19 assists), was 5th most among defensemen in the conference, and his +17 number was the best mark in the conference.
He finished his Bentley career with 151 games played, 2nd most in school history, and 86 points, which is 3rd most among defensemen in program history.
Off the ice, he majors in finance with a minor in both mathematics and history, and has a 3.82 GPA for the semester. He's been named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team three years in a row. Jago was also involved with Waltham youth hockey throughout his career, helping to grow the game locally, while also being an active member of the Bentley community.
The other four student-athletes named to the first team for the Senior CLASS Award were Air Force's Kyle Haak, Penn State's Chase Berger, Ohio State's Sasha Larocque and Princeton's Max Veronneau.
The five named to the second team were Colorado College's Mason Bergh, RIT's Erik Brown, Quinnipiac's Chase Priskie, St. Cloud State's Jimmy Schuldt and Princeton's Josh Teves.
