Santerno Claims Atlantic Player of the Week Award

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley University's Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) claimed the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week award for this week after helping the Falcons sweep Canisius on the road over the weekend.

The sweep of Canisius extended Bentley's unbeaten streak to seven games, at 5-0-2, which is tied for the longest current streak in the country with UMass-Lowell.

Santerno had a hand in four of Bentley's seven goals scored in its two wins over Canisius. In Friday's 4-2 victory, he had the primary assist on two 2nd period power play goals, scored by Tanner Jago and Jakov Novak. That saw Bentley end the period ahead 2-1 after a scoreless first period.

On Saturday to complete the sweep, he scored in the 2nd period to tie the game 1-1. After Bentley went ahead 2-1 on a goal by junior Jake Kauppila at 11:48 of the 3rd period, Santerno then had the primary assist on Jonathan Desbiens' empty net goal with 15 seconds left in the game to seal the 3-1 victory.

The British Columbia native leads the team with 26 points, which is 6th most in Atlantic Hockey. He has 8 goals, second most on the team, and a team-high 18 assists. He ranks T-6th in Atlantic Hockey in assists.

Santerno is the 4th Bentley player this season to earn a weekly award from Atlantic Hockey. The others are Aidan Pelino for Goalie of the Week (Jan. 15) and Novak and Dylan Pitera (Oct. 30, Nov. 6) for Rookie of the Week

Bentleyl look to keep the streak going on Friday when they host Air Force at Bentley Arena, which begins a four-game home stand.
