ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT defeated Bentley University 4-0 Saturday night at Ritter Arena to split its Atlantic Hockey series with the Falcons. Tigers goalie Josh Watson made 31 saves for the shutout and four different players scored.

After being shutout by Bentley 3-0 on its home-ice in the series opener Friday night, Watson and RIT turned it around with a shutout of their own to ensure both teams came away with two points from the weekend.

RIT took 41 shots on net the night before and came up empty against goalie Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) , but it took them just 34 seconds to get on the scoreboard in this game as sophomore Brad McGowan scored with classmate Matt Garbowsky on the assist, the first of two straight goals their line would score.

McGowan's goal came off a turnover in Bentley's defensive zone. Garbowsky had the initial shot on net off the giveaway saved by Komm, but McGowan was in front of the net to deposit the rebound.

RIT then took a 2-0 lead at 12:04 of the first on freshman winger Dan Schuler's goal off another Bentley turnover. Shuler picked off a Bentley clearing pass in its own zone and fed McGowan. McGowan then quickly passed back to Shuler in front of the net for the goal.

The Tigers though weren't finished for the period. Junior Brian Potts found the back of the net at 17:51 to give them a 3-0 lead. The play started with Bentley missing a scoring chance in its end as Watson denied Joe Campanelli (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Westminster Prep). Potts then took the puck down the other end in transition and scored on a shot from just inside the blue line that went under the cross bar.

While Bentley couldn't get anything going in the second period, RIT added to its lead with a power play goal from junior Mike Colavecchia at 12:28.

Bentley falls to 8-10-1 overall and 6-6-1 in Atlantic Hockey, and RIT improves to 6-10-4 and 4-6-4 in conference play.

The Falcons return home next Friday for the first time in six weeks when they open a series against Canisius. Game time for both contests is 7:05 pm.
