Bentley Knocks Off Air Force 2-1

US AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Bentley made it a three point weekend and earned its first win at Air Force since 2006 with a 2-1 victory Saturday night in the second game of the weekend series, and in the process, moved into a tie for fourth place.

Freshman Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove Saints) scored the go-ahead goal at 2:31 of the third period with Bentley on a 5-on-3 advantage.

Bentley turned in another excellent defensive performance, holding Air Force to just 20 shots. Sophomore goalie Branden Komm (Williamsville, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) stopped 19 of them to earn the win.

Air Force pulled goalie Jason Torf for the final 1:53 for the extra-attacker in search of the tying goal but Bentley held firm.

Switzer's goal came with just seconds left on a two-man advantage, after Brad McBride was called for hitting from behind at 18:14 of the second period and Paul Weisgarber called for slashing at 45 seconds of the third period. Sophomore Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo./Youngstown Phantoms) fed Switzer a cross-ice pass to the right face-off circle and Switzer beat Torf with a one-timer for the lead.

The assist extended his scoring streak to seven games.

Air Force grabbed an early lead on Tony Thomas' goal at 4:03 of the first period, but Bentley answered back with a power play goal from freshman Alex Grieve (Calgary, Alberta/Westside Warriors) at 7:30 of the second period, his sixth goal of the year and third game in the last four with a goal.

The win improves Bentley's record to 7-3-4 overall in Atlantic Hockey and moves them into a tie in the standings with RIT, the team they'll host next weekend. Air Force drops to 8-4-3 in the league and is tied for second.

The series with RIT begins Friday night at 7:05 from Ryan Skating Arena.
