Bentley Impresses on Day 2 of Penmen Invitational

CONCORD, N.H. – With all five counting players posting scores of 76 or better, the Bentley University men's golf team had the fourth best day two score during Southern New Hampshire's Penmen Invitational Tuesday at the Beaver Meadow Golf Club.

The Falcons' second round 295 was an improvement of nine strokes from Monday's 304. Bentley finished the tournament seventh of nine overall with a 599 and missed a top five showing by only six strokes.

Bentley's number one finisher in the team's debut tournament of the spring was junior Evan Desjardins (Salem, N.H./Salem HS). He turned in a second straight one-over 73 and tied for tenth place with a 73-73-146.

Bennett Berg (Portland, Maine/Portland HS), also a junior, shot even par Tuesday and finished in a tie for 21st with a 77-72-149.

Senior Tim Picard (Dracut/Lowell Catholic HS) tied for 32nd with a 76-76-152, and both senior Aidan Stuart (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) and sophomore Robbie Sluga (Stamford, Conn./St. Joseph HS) tied for 37th. Stuart posted a 78-75-153 and Sluga had a 74-79-153.

Medalist honors went to Assumption's Sean Magarian, with a four-under 70-70-140. That was one stroke better than day one leader Bill Koch (Post), who had a 67-74-141.

Post took home the team championship as the Eagles bested runner-up Saint Anselm by three strokes, 577-580.

Bentley will be back in New Hampshire Thursday for the Saint Anselm Hawk Invitational at The Oaks in Somersworth.
