Bentley Opens Play in NCAA Div. II East/Atlantic Regional Thursday

LIVE RESULTS  |  CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University Falcons will be one of 20 teams that will be teeing off Thursday when the 2022 NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional gets underway at the Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, N.Y.

The top four teams from the three-day, 54-hole tournament, and the top two individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the NCAA Division II Championships, which will be held May 16-20 at TPC Michigan in Dearborn, Mich.

Bentley has been selected for the regional tournament annually since 2011, with the exception of 2020 when the pandemic forced the cancellation, and has been represented at the nationals in both 2019 and 2021. The Falcons qualified as a team in 2019 and Tommy Ethier did so as an individual last year.

The lineup for interim coach Kevin Daly this week will have senior co-captains Ryan Daly (Beverly/Beverly HS) and Matt Mackin (Westwood/Westwood HS), juniors Jared Walter (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) and Kevin Lynch (Haddam, Conn./Xavier HS), and sophomore Aidan Stuart (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS).

All but Lynch competed in last year's regional tournament, which saw Bentley tie for fourth overall. Walter tied for 54th with a 241, Daly's 242 put him in a tie for 59th and Mackin tied for 65th with a 245. Stuart, who was playing as an individual for St. Michael's, matched Daly's performance.

Walter has been Bentley's top golfer this season with a team-best 75.5 stroke average. He was the team's top performer in six of ten tournaments, including a tie for eighth most recently in AIC's Yellow Jacket Invitational.

Other averages this year were 77.6 for Lynch, 77.8 for Stuart, 77.9 for Mackin and 79.2 for Daly.

Bentley is one of only two East Region teams which will be competing in an 11th consecutive regional, an honor it shares with St. Thomas Aquinas College.
