Bentley Set for Northeast-10 Golf Championships Tuesday & Wednesday; Format & Dates Changed
WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University golf coach Mickey Herron will be fielding an experienced lineup in the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Golf Championships, which will now be held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Concord (N.H.) Country Club.
Due to the forecast of inclement weather, the tournament start has been delayed by a day and it's been reduced from a 54-hole to a 36-hole event. Originally scheduled for 36 holes Monday and 18 Tuesday, they'll now play 18 holes both Tuesday and Wednesday with action getting underway at 8 am.
Competing for the Falcons will be seniors Ryan Daly (Beverly/Beverly HS), Matt Mackin (Westwood/Westwood HS) and Kyle McLane (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington HS), along with juniors Kevin Lynch (Haddam, Conn./Xavier HS) and Jared Walter (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS).
Each has played in one tournament for Bentley so far this season. In the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational, Walter had a 76-69-145, Lynch turned in a 74-73-147 and Mackin provided a 78-78-156. During Southern New Hampshire's Penmen Fall Invitational, McLane had a 54-hole score of 218 with a 71-72-75 and Daly's total was 231.
During the 2020-21 championships, which were held in April, Mackin tied for 15th (75-82-157), Walter tied for 30th (77-85-162) and Daly tied for 34th (85-80-165). Bentley, as a team, finished fifth among nine competing squads.
In a pre-tournament poll of conference coaches, Bentley tied for second this year with defending champion Le Moyne College, each with 66 points. Southern New Hampshire topped the voting with 81 points and the Penmen received nine of ten first-place votes. Also in the top five were Assumption and Franklin Pierce, who tied for fourth with 55 points.
Bentley will be looking for its first conference championship since 2017, its fourth since 2011 and its seventh overall, most among any current NE10 member.
