Golf Opens Fall Season Sunday & Monday in New Hampshire

WALTHAM, Mass. – The first of six fall tournaments for the Bentley University golf team will be the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational Sunday and Monday at the Keene Country Club in New Hampshire.

This weekend's lineup for coach Mickey Herron will be senior co-captain Matt Mackin (Westwood/Westwood HS), juniors Jared Walter (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) and Kevin Lynch (Haddam, Conn./Xavier HS), sophomore Aidan Stuart (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS), and freshman Bennett Berg (Portland, Maine/Portland HS).

Last spring, Mackin and Walter were third and fourth, respectively, for Bentley in stroke average. Mackin posted a 77.6 over 14 rounds and Walter recorded a 79.5 during eight rounds. Lynch appeared in only two tournaments during his first two years as a collegian.

Stuart transferred from St. Michael's where he had an excellent rookie season. He had a season average of 78.0, earned second-team All-Conference honors and was selected for the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional.

The fall season for the Falcons also includes the Southern New Hampshire Penmen Invitational Sept. 19-20, the Northeast-10 Championships at the Concord (N.H.) Golf Club Oct. 4-5, the Saint Rose Fall Shootout Oct. 8-9, the Post University Fall Invitational Oct. 11-12, and the Le Moyne Invitational Oct. 15-16.

Under Herron's leadership, the Falcons have qualified for the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional 10 of the last 11 years, the lone exception being in 2020 when the pandemic cancelled the tournament. He graduated a pair of All-Region and Academic All-Americas from last year's squad, Tommy Ethier and Ellis Yoder.
