Coach Mickey Herron & NE10 Player of the Year Tommy Ethier

Ethier Repeats as NE10 Golfer of the Year; Herron Earns 3rd Coach of the Year Award

WALTHAM, Mass. – Recent Bentley University graduate Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) has been selected as the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Golfer of the Year for the second consecutive year.

In addition, his coach, Mickey Herron, was voted the Northeast-10 Men's Golf Coach of the Year for the third time during his 11-year tenure.

Ethier also earned All-Northeast-10 honors for the fourth time and made his third straight appearance on the All-Conference first team. The list of All-Northeast-10 honorees also included graduate student Ellis Yoder (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead HS), a third-team honoree for the second straight year.

Previously recognized as Bentley's Outstanding Male Senior Athlete, Ethier was the only Northeast-10 men's golfer to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships where he tied for 39th place with a 75-83-80-238.

Ethier earned his trip to Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. for the nationals by winning a sudden-death playoff to claim medalist honors at the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regionals.

Ethier, who had a 74.5 average this spring in nine tournaments, owns three of the four best single-season stroke averages in program history, as well as the premier career stroke average by a Falcon, 74.5.

On Saturday, Ethier captured the Hornblower Memorial tournament in Plymouth with an outstanding 67-66-133.

Yoder, who was named the Northeast-10 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Monday, had a 77.1 stroke average this spring and shot in the 70s 11 times during 14 rounds. The 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America tied for 20th in the NE10 Championships and 39th in the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional.

Herron, previously the conference Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2015, led Bentley to a tie for fourth place in the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional with only a difficult playoff loss keeping the Falcons from a second trip to the NCAA Championships. Bentley previously advanced to the nationals in 2019.

During his 11 seasons at the helm, Herron has taken his team to the NCAA regional ten times, missing out only in 2020 when it was cancelled by the pandemic. His teams have captured three Northeast-10 championships and have also excelled in the classroom.
