Playoff Victory Gives Ethier Medalist Honors at NCAA Regional; Bentley Ties for 4th

NORTH EAST, Pa. – With a victory on the second playoff hole, Bentley University senior co-captain Tommy Ethier (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) earned medalist honors at the 2021 NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Regional Saturday at the Lake View Country Club.

Following a 74-75-74-223 during the 54-hole tournament, Ethier qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships, which will be held May 17-21 at the PGA National Resort, the Champions Course, in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Ethier, who had eight birds for the tournament and was four-under on the par-fives, closed out the third round with birdies on 16 and 17, and a bogey on 18, to finish even with Mercyhurst's Jack Angelucci.

As a team, Bentley was not as fortunate in the sudden death playoff as the Falcons were edged out by Fayetteville State for fourth place and the right to advance to the nationals. The two teams each finished at 932 for the tournament with Bentley outscoring Fayetteville by four strokes, 313-317, on day three.

Bentley, when it finished its round, trailed Fayetteville by eight strokes, but gradually the gap closed until the Falcons drew even. The Falcons' number two man during the third round was junior Matt Mackin (Westwood, Mass./Westwood HS) with a 79.

For the tournament, the Falcons' number two finisher was graduate student Ellis Yoder (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead HS), who tied for 40th with an 80-78-80-238.

The top three teams in the 16-team field were Gannon University (912), St. Thomas Aquinas College (915) and Davis & Elkins College (918).
